Risk Assessment and Safeguarding for School Trips and Expeditions

We are pleased to be coming together - Tim Gerrish OBE (International Child Protection Advisors, formerly of Scotland Yard and the National Crime Agency Child Exploitation and Online Protection Command) and Dr Clare Dallat (Risk Resolve, with global, practical and academic expertise in risk assessment and management in outdoor and experiential learning programs), to deliver an important new workshop on Risk Assessment and Safeguarding for School Trips and Expeditions.

It is rare to bring these perspectives together in one session: Tim’s global child protection and investigative expertise, combined with Clare’s internationally recognised research and practice in contemporary risk and safety management across schools, outdoor and experiential learning programs.

Safe Touch & Intimate Care in the Early Years:

A Positive Approach

Empowering international educators to create safe, respectful, and nurturing environments for young children.

Working with young children means supporting them through some of the most personal and sensitive moments of their daily routines.

This practical and interactive 3-hour course delivered live time on Zoom equips Early Years professionals with the knowledge, confidence and best-practice approaches needed to ensure every child feels safe, respected, and valued.

Participants will learn how to:

• Work confidently and safely with young children and their families

• Give young children a voice in their own safety and daily routines

• Build positive, trusting relationships that help children thrive

• Develop safe touch and intimate care policies grounded in international best practice

• Respond appropriately to unwanted or inappropriate touch

• Foster a respectful, child-centred culture around intimate care

• Attachment and Emotional Security: how secure attachment supports healthy development in young children

• Cultural Influences: understanding cultural attitudes to touch and intimate care routines

• Best Practice Principles: respect, dignity, and the rights of every child; empowerment and choice in everyday care; promoting independence in intimate care routines

• Learning Through Care: using care routines as meaningful learning opportunities

• Individualised Care: creating and maintaining personalised care plans: effective and professional record-keeping

• Team & Family Partnership: the vital role of the trusted /keyperson; inducting new staff and setting professional standards; collaborating with parents tin an international context to ensure consistency and trust
